What are the minimum requirements needed to apply for the position of Police Officer with the North Little Rock Police Department?

What are the minimum requirements for hire?

Each applicant must pass:

Upon the successful completion of the above requirements, you will receive a conditional letter of hire. You will then need to pass a medical physical along with vision and psychological exams. You will also be required to take a drug screening test. All of these are at the expense of the city of North Little Rock.

Can prior law enforcement experience be considered towards appointment as a North Little Rock Police Officer?

If you have prior law enforcement experience you may meet the requirements to apply as a certified officer. Documentation must be included with your application in order to be given credit for prior experience. Are lateral transfers accepted for officers from other agencies?

The North Little Rock Police Department does not accept lateral transfers.

Are officers of the North Little Rock Police Department required to live in the city of North Little Rock?

The North Little Rock Police Department does not have a residency requirement. However, there are restrictions on officers that qualify for a home storage patrol car.

When can I move forward into a specialized position such as in the Detective Office, Narcotics, SWAT, etc.?

At the North Little Rock Police Department your career path begins with a minimum of one (1) year spent in the Patrol Division as a patrol officer. As specialized positions become available, officers may apply and be interviewed.

When is the next entry-level exam?

The date for the next police officer examination will be announced by the city of North LittleRock at least six (6) months prior to the testing date. You can locate this date in the vertical scrollbar located on the NLRPD home page or on the city of North Little Rock Personnel Department web site.

How do I get an application sent to me by mail?

To receive an application by mail, you must first request a contact card be mailed to you. An application will be mailed to you after you complete the card and return it.

When may I complete a contact card for the next entry level exam?

A contact card may be completed at any time. You may have it mailed to you as discussed in the previous question or you may pick one up at the North Little Rock Police Department Recruiting Office located at 2400 Willow Street in North Little Rock. Contact cards and applications will only be available at the City of North Little Rock Personnel Department three (3) weeks prior to the application deadline. Can I take the entry level exam if I am almost 21 years old?

You may test five (5) months prior to your twenty first birthday.

What are the age requirements to be hired as a Police Officer?

Applicants are required to be twenty one (21) years of age and no more than forty five (45) years of age at the date of hire.

Where is the entry level exam held?

Applicants who turn in a completed application before the deadline will be notified by mail of the specific time and location of the written examination and physical ability test. It is the applicant's responsibility to keep the North Little Rock Personnel Department informed of his or her complete and current mailing address.

How will I be notified that I should take the entry-level examination?

You will receive a letter from the North Little Rock Personnel Department informing you of the location of the test. Once again, it is the applicant's responsibility to keep the North Little Rock Personnel Department informed of his or her complete and current mailing address.

If I am not successful at passing the entry level exam or physical ability test the first time, may I retake the test?

Applicants may take the test as often as they wish, however, there must be at least one year between examinations.
