The North Little Rock Police Department is dedicated to helping parents protect their children from the dangers of the Internet. The Internet is a wonderful and valuable tool when used safely. However, there are individuals out there who will use the Internet to prey on children. Without the watchful eyes of parents who have learned about these dangers, it can be deadly. PARENTS, TAKE THE TIME TO EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT THE INTERNET AND HOW TO USE IT. On this page are some helpful tips and links to sites that provide information on Internet safety.
  1. NEVER GIVE OUT TOO MUCH INFORMATION. Don't use your name, phone number, home address, or parent and sibling names. Don't tell your school name or what activities you are involved in such as team names, clubs, or church functions.

  2. NEVER GIVE YOUR COMPUTER PASSWORD TO ANYONE EXCEPT YOUR PARENTS. Your parents should know your password!

  3. NEVER UPLOAD A PICTURE OF YOURSELF, YOUR FRIENDS OR YOUR FAMILY ONTO THE INTERNET TO PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW PERSONALLY.

  4. NEVER PUT A PICTURE OF YOURSELF, YOUR FRIENDS, OR YOUR FAMILY ON YOUR WEBSITE OR HOMEPAGE.

  5. NEVER DOWNLOAD PICTURES FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU ARE TOLD ABOUT THE SOURCE.

  6. NEVER RESPOND TO OBSCENE, SUGGESTIVE, OR HARASSING MESSAGES. Don't respond if someone is trying to get you into an argument or get you to do things you know are wrong.

  7. NEVER ARRANGE FACE-TO-FACE MEETINGS WITH SOMEONE YOU MEET ONLINE.

  8. NEVER CHECK OUT A QUESTIONABLE WEBSITE OR CHAT ROOM JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE CURIOUS.

  9. ALWAYS TELL YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU CHAT WITH ONLINE. DON'T KEEP INTERNET SECRETS FROM YOUR PARENTS!

  10. IF ANYONE SENDS YOU THREATENING MESSAGES, OBSCENE PICTURES, OR MAKES YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE IN ANY WAY, TELL YOUR PARENTS OR A TRUSTED ADULT IMMEDIATELY! IF NECESSARY CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY!
