The Professional Development Unit is led by Captain Leonard Montgomery and is composed of the Training Unit along with the offices of Professional Standards, Research and Development, Information and Technology Unit, and Public Information.
This division is responsible for many different functions including the recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of new recruit police officers, curricula development and implementation for in-service personnel training, dissemination of information to the public and media, administrative investigations of personnel matters resulting from officer performance, and the operation and maintenance of the department's complex computer systems.
Officers of the North Little Rock Police Department are required to train in various subjects throughout the year. In addition to mandatory training such as Bias-free Policing and Effective Communication Skills, officers must complete at least 16 hours of elective training in areas ranging from Document Identification to Crime Scene Investigation to Control Tactics. Officers must also attend a range session for firearms qualifications every three months.
